This is my personal story about my lisp speech, thanks for stopping by. I want to share my story with you because I use to be in a situation just like yours. I use to suffer from an embarrassing lisp. At the age of 38 I began my search to fix my lisp speech. Not soon after I can across a book that helped. More on that later...
I remember having a lisp when I was young. My Mum had taken me to a speech pathologist, which was probably the most embarrassing thing ever! Because of this discomfort I never made it to a second meeting with the Pathologist.
I went through my schooling years always conscious, always knowing that I pronounced the S letter a little different to everyone else. Most times I didn't think about it because I kept my mind busy with everything else. But once a week, or sometimes more, I would remember my Lisp. I would imagine how others see me when I pronounce the S letter and that just made me feel miserable! ... Yet I didn't seek help. Looking back it was probably because of the massive amounts of embarrassment of going to the speech pathologist.
To fast forward a bit, I became more and more self conscious with my lisp while growing up. Going on dates were very hard, job interviews, dealing with new people, socializing in general just became such a terrible challenge. And I was at a point where I just couldn't bare going to a speech pathologist to fix my lisp speech. What was my solution? I tried to forget about the lisp! ...bad mistake, that doesn't work.
At the age of 38 I started looking for a way to fix my lisp on the internet. Luckily I came across a new book that was published only a few months before I started looking. Its got a lot of lessons that the professionals use to help folks fix their lisp. I practiced, and I practiced hard with all those lessons! I literally spent hours on hours infront of a mirror practicing.
One of the most satisfying things ever had been to record myself reading a page from a book, then playing my voice back to me. Oh how sweet and clear my voice has become. The work I had put into the lessons had paid off after only 2 months.
I hope that you who is reading this has come to realize that a lisp is able to be cured. It just needs the right lessons and determination. I can't really help you with self determination, but with regards to the lessons, you can also read the book I used to fix my lisp.
Hope that helped!
